Project Abstract

The project requires the replacement of deteriorated track foundations and subgrade materials under existing track at a major urban railway station. The work is multi-phased to minimize impact to commuter traffic into the station. Work is performed under night shift operations and scheduled track outages from the railroad owner. Contractors must maintain railroad traffic at all times during construction. The keys to project success are control of schedule and sequencing of work to optimize crew productivity.

The major items of work are:

  •  Work area access.

  •  Excavation and backfill work

  •  Demolition

  •  Formwork and rebar installation

  •  Removal and reinstallation of rails

  •  Removing and replacing a 12” thick concrete slab and 1 to 2 feet of under lying material.

  •  Installation of under drains and manholes

Teams will be required to submit a complete bid for the project in accordance with the line items in the Bid Form. Teams will need to consider all elements of bid preparation including but not limited to means and methods, quantity take-off, schedule, direct costs, indirect costs and risk analysis.

Teams will be required to determine labor cost and manning requirements from union agreements, analyze quotations from material suppliers and subcontractors and present a CPM schedule for the project.
