Project Abstract

The project requires construction of a new ventilation plant connecting to an existing underground tunnel. The work is to be performed in an urban environment with several existing structures in the vicinity, requiring careful consideration of the staging and support to prevent damage to these existing structures. Work may be performed up to six days per week, with the option to work double shifts (approximately 7:00 am to 3:00pm, and 3:00pm to 10:00pm). All entrances to existing buildings must be maintained, and one sidewalk must be open through the area for the duration of the project. Important factors to consider are the performance of a significant amount of work in a small area and the maintenance of surrounding structures’ foundations. Furthermore, work at certain locations will require coordination with adjacent operations and work by others.

Major Stages of work include:
• Mobilization
• Utility relocation/support, Excavation & Backfill
• Steel sheeting and decking installation
• Formwork and reinforcing installation
• Installation of equipment.
• Street and sidewalk restoration

Teams will be required to submit a complete bid for the project in accordance with the line items in the Bid Form. Teams will need to consider all elements of bid preparation such as means and methods, quantity take-off, schedule, direct and indirect costs, risk analysis, safety, and community relations.

Teams will be required to determine labor cost and requirements from union agreements, analyze quotes from material suppliers & subcontractors, and present a CPM schedule for the project.
